How does it fit in with the rest of the narrative?

Comment on Suicide Club (2002) and Noriko’s Dinner Table (2005): Decade Old Films Find New Relevance in the Digital Age by Scott H https://www.horrorhomeroom.com/suicide-club-2002-and-norikos-dinner-table-2005-decade-old-films-find-new-relevance-in-the-digital-age/#comment-27311 Mon, 27 Sep 2021 03:06:15 +0000 http://www.horrorhomeroom.com/?p=1428#comment-27311 These are the most interesting and thoughtful observations I’ve ever come across for this great-albeit misunderstood-pair movies. I didn’t understand the meaning of the stitched together skin until now-excellent insight! The relevance of these films has increased dramatically with their unsettlingly accurate prediction of people’s ever-expanding “disconnectedness” in the contemporary world. And now, post global pandemic lockdown, meaningful social connectedness and face-to-face interactions seem even more out of reach than before. I’m not sure what’s more haunting: the lingering imagery of these films, or living our day-to-day lives in the shadows cast by a digital world of social make believe.

Comment on Lady in a Cage: Early, Devastating Home Invasion Film by Adam G https://www.horrorhomeroom.com/lady-in-a-cage-early-devastating-home-invasion-film/#comment-27219 Mon, 20 Sep 2021 04:03:19 +0000 http://www.horrorhomeroom.com/?p=7081#comment-27219 I first saw this film as a kid on TV in the 1970s and I remember how shocking it was. I was very taken aback at the time at how weird it was and how uncomfortable it made me feel. And as a result it probably made me more cynical and mistrusting of people (strangers especially) in general. Yes it had that strong of an effect! And then the ending, someone’s head being run over by a car — graphically. I still can’t believe they showed that on TV. And yet at first glance it has that old-timey, benign B&W look to it that puts you into a false sense of security. Thinking about what typically went on in early/mid 1960s movies (aside from Psycho) at that time you wouldn’t really expect this to be that disturbing. That I still remember it after all those years after deliberately putting it out of my mind really says something! Not a pleasant movie to watch but still somehow very effective. I just happen to run accross the movie poster/DVD cover on the internet and that brought it all back to me.
